Jewish Funds for Justice: Creating a just, fair, and compassionate America.
The Jewish Funds for Justice is a national public foundation guided by Jewish history and tradition. JFSJ helps people in the United States achieve social and economic security and opportunity by investing in healthy neighborhoods, vibrant Jewish communities, and skillful leaders. Our holistic approach to social change includes grantmaking and loans, service learning, leadership development, organizing, education, and advocacy.
Our Values
Jewish Funds for Justice is guided by the following values:
- Hope/ Tikvah – We create a better future because we believe that progress is always possible and within our capacity to realize.
- Courage/ Ometz – We take the necessary risks in pursuit of our purpose because our cause is righteous and just.
- Humility/ Anavah – We behave with integrity as a reliable partner, ally, colleague, and friend because we cannot achieve our vision by acting alone.
- Dignity/ Tzelem Elohim – We protect the rights of individuals to live in freedom and have access to opportunity because every person is a unique and infinitely valuable being.
- Abundance/ Shefa - We act as stewards of our resources because we are obligated by the knowledge that our prosperity is not by our hands alone.
- Community/ Kehilah – We build relationships where people help each other because individuals have a profound responsibility for the wellbeing of the whole.
Our Vision
In the American Jewish community, JFSJ will help
to expand the Jewish progressive base and increase its capacity for creating
economic justice while partnering with established institutions to engage them on issues of
common concern. In the broader American community, JFSJ will strengthen the
progressive capacity of low income communities and organizations while being
a leader in reestablishing the Jewish community’s role as an anchor and
ally to the social change movement.
To realize this vision, the Jewish Funds for Justice is helping to build a resurgent movement for justice with a significant Jewish presence at its center. Because of our innovative programming, more synagogues are building dynamic congregations, more working families own their own homes, more young Jews are becoming Jewish leaders, more volunteers are serving the common good, and more communities are organizing for social change.
We have offices in New York City, Philadelphia, and Baltimore, and help create change in more than a dozen cities or regions. For more information, please contact us.
